Day 13: What Excites Me

Public speaking excites me. The adrenaline builds slowly. I don’t feel the tension till the D-day. Then in the hall, seeing all those faces, my bowels start misbehaving. I feel like using the toilet and can break into a sweat in a well AC’d room. This has never changed despite the number of debates and public speaking contests I’ve been involved in. It’s exciting to stand on that stage, and gradually rope in the minds of the audience like fish trapped in a net, the final moment when I pull them out of the water and they gasp for air.

Public speaking represents power in its most raw form for me. On the stage, I possess a power, albeit temporal. That’s one of the things I will miss about school. Public speaking platforms are easy to get while in school, in most cases, begging for those to stand on them.

I’ll find a way to keep my public speaking muscles tense after school. It’s a hobby. It’s a career path. Its life.
